Administration of Early Childhood Programs – Summer 2019

                                   

This course acquaints participants with critical elements in establishing and operating an early childhood program. We will explore state regulations, staff relationships, business practices, parent communication, and community relationships. This course meets the requirements of the Department of Early Education and Care for the Director I Certificate in MA, please check your states requirements if outside of Massachusetts.

This course is approved for three graduate credits through Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). Arrangements can also be made for undergraduate credits through SNHU.

Schedule: This online course is organized into 8 weekly Modules. The course begins on July 10 and finishes on August 28, 2019.  Each week a new module will open on Wednesday mornings at 8 am.  Live class sessions will be held via Zoom video conference on Wednesday afternoons from 2 pm to 4:30 pm EST.

Summer 2019 Course for Early Childhood Educators Interested in Becoming Director I Certified

 

Susan MacDonald, the founder of Inspiring New Perspectives and the author of Inspiring Early Childhood Leadership is excited to announce that she will be teaching a Summer course for emerging leaders in the early childhood field. PDED 598A – Administration of Early Childhood Programs                                       

This course acquaints participants with critical elements in establishing and operating an early childhood program. It will explore state regulations, staff relationships, business practices, parent communication, and community relationships. Learning Outcomes of the Course

Each student will:

  • understand the range of skills and responsibilities required of a child care director
  • acquire information regarding state licensing requirements, NAEYC accreditation, and  Early Childhood Program Standards, and QRIS
  • develop the ability to articulate his/her point of view regarding childcare issues as they relate to staff, families and the community
  • analyze the use of space, equipment and materials from both a business and an educational perspective
  • identify the role of sound business practice in Early Childhood settings
  • reflect on their own areas of growth and develop a clear professional developmental plan to support and guide their learning
  • acquire group-process and team-building skills

These goals will be met through a variety of modes including readings, written assignments, online lectures, participation in discussion groups, interactive exercises, and guest speakers.

 Time Commitment:

This course requires your active participation. Expect to spend 10 – 12 hours per week on course work and assignments.

 In addition to these course dates and hours, each participant will need to schedule six hours shadowing a current director of an early childhood program.

Course Requirements:

  1. All students will complete text and other readings, develop a comprehensive Individual Professional Development Plan and Action Plan, individual written assignments, a review of professional journal articles, and a written reflection on their experience shadowing an early childhood director.
  2. Each student is expected to attend the live online class sessions and actively participate in the various discussions boards and related activities of the week.
  3. Each week students will be required to complete weekly discussion board postings. Discussion posts need to be made throughout the week. All first original discussion postings are due by Friday at midnight EST. All replies are due by Monday at midnight EST.
  4. All assignments must be completed in order to pass this course

Course Costs

The cost of the three-credit course is $960. Payment for this course will be processed through Inspiring New Perspectives. Credit for the course will be through Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
